Version control for Cursor chats via MCP

VibeHub adds the vibehub-mcp server to Cursor, giving the Cursor agent MCP tools to capture chats into VibeHub — vibehub_start_session, vibehub_append_message, vibehub_attach_to_commit, and more. Pair it with the VibeHub editor extension to capture commits too.

Set it up

Install the MCP server

export VIBEHUB_TOKEN=vbh_…
npx vibehub-cursor install

What gets captured

  • Cursor agent chats, captured into VibeHub sessions through MCP tools
  • Links between those sessions and your git commits via vibehub_attach_to_commit

How it works

The installer merges a vibehub server entry into ~/.cursor/mcp.json, writing a .vibehub.bak backup first.

Restart Cursor and the server appears under Cursor Settings → MCP.

Tell the Cursor agent “start a vibehub session for this chat” — or add a Cursor rule that runs vibehub_start_session on chat start.

Cursor + VibeHub FAQ

Can I install it without running npx?
Yes. Copy mcp.template.json into ~/.cursor/mcp.json, merging with anything already there, and replace vbh_REPLACE_ME with your token.
How do I make capture automatic for every Cursor chat?
Add a Cursor rule that runs vibehub_start_session on chat start. To capture commits automatically as well, install the VibeHub editor extension, which works in Cursor.
